Presidental Cup Goes to Near East University!

Near East University won against Fenerbahçe with 75-59 on 25th Presidential Cup and took the trophy to their museum.

The game was played at Gaziantep Karataş Şahinbey Sports Hall. Gaziantep Governor Ali Yerlikaya, Gaziantep Metropolitan Mayor Fatma Şahin, Turkish Basketball Federation President Hidayet Türkoğlu, TBF CEO Ömer Onan and TBF Board members were among those who follow the game.

Both teams were very slow at the beginning of the game. Fenerbahçe found some shots with Birsel and Ayşe. However Vandersloot responded them from behind the arc and McBride and Cansu helped her with a couple of lay-ups. Near East University finished first quarter with 13-12 lead.

Fenerbahçe started second period strong inside the painted area and made a 7 point difference. However Near East University responded again with the same weapon and did not let Fenerbahçe go ahead. After that point Near East University showed a great defensive performance and did not allowed any easy baskets. They went to the locker room with 8 point lead (39-31).

On the second half Fenerbahçe could not hit the shots they wanted from the outside. Near East University did not miss that opportunity and make it 18 point game at the end of the third quarter with a great offensive performance. They did not lose that lead in the final period and they won the game 75-59.

Kayla McBride, scored 21, is selected as Most Valuable Player of the game.
