All-Star Ankara 2015 Rosters Announced

Jan 15, 2015

Today at the Wyndham Grand Hotel in Istanbul, Turkish Basketball League (TBL) Director Samer Şenbayrak alongside Turkish Basketball Federation (TBF) and FIBA Europe Board Member Harun Erdenay revealed the rosters for the TBL All-Star Ankara 2015, set for this Sunday at Ankara Arena. Şenbayrak and Erdenay were joined by TBL All-Stars Alex Stephenson (Istanbul Büyükşehir Belediyesi), John Shurna (Darüşşafaka Doğuş), and Reinaldas Seibutis (Darüşşafaka), as well as All-Star coaches Ahmet Kandemir (Beşiktaş İntegral Forex) and Zoran Lukic (Banvit).

The 24 athletes who will take the court on Sunday come from eight different nations, including Turkey, USA, Montenegro, Australia, Czech Republic, Lithuania, Puerto Rico, and Croatia. Players competing for TBL clubs based in Europe will take on representatives of the league’s Asia-based clubs. The game will be broadcast live on NTV Spor and LigTV 3.

Fans of the TBL from around the world were able to select their favorite players beginning on December 24, with more than 400,000 votes cast.

“Every year the brightest stars of the TBL come together for the All-Star, and this year promises to be the most exciting edition to date,” Şenbayrak said. “Our goal this Sunday is to give the world’s best fans an unforgettable basketball experience courtesy of some of the world’s most talented players.”

All-Star Ankara 2015 kicks off at 14:00 on Sunday at Ankara Arena with the ParaMara 3-point Shooting Competition and the Sony Xperia Slam Dunk Contest. Those competitions will feature the TBL’s sharpshooters and high-flyers, including Carlos Arroyo (Galatasaray Liv Hospital), Andrew Goudelock (Fenerbahçe Ülker), Furkan Korkmaz (Anadolu Efes), and Chinemenu Elonu (Tofaş). The main event will follow, with Turkish pop star Murat Dalkılıç performing at halftime.

“This is probably the best league in Europe at the moment, and the bar is raising every year,” said Seibutis, who will also participate in the ParaMara 3-point Shooting Competition. “It’s a big honor to be selected for the All-Star.”

After 15 games of TBL action Anadolu Efes (11-4) sits atop the leaderboard, but Darüşşafaka Doğuş and Fenerbahçe Ülker also have 11 wins. Only four points separate first-place Anadolu Efes and eighth place Trabzonspor Medical Park (7-8), which would secure the final playoff spot if the season ended today. The TBL’s second half gets underway on January 24.
