On September 21, thousands of lucky fans in Ljubljana got a look at the future stars of Europe during the annual EuroBasket U18 All Star Game. Four players from Turkey’s U18 European Championship gold-medal team were invited to participate, more than any other country.

Big men Kerem Kanter and Metecan Birsen suited up for the White team, while guards Kenan Sipahi and Doğukan Şanlı helped lead the Blue team to a 74–69 victory.

"This was a great experience for everyone involved,” said Kenan Sipahi, who last summer was the MVP of the U18 European Championship. “It was a great way to finish the summer for us."

Sipahi led all players with 24 minutes played and finished the game with four points, four rebounds and six assists, including a beautiful no-look pass to Serbian center Nikola Jokic, whose lay-up put the White team up three in the fourth quarter.

Kanter showed off his range, leading the White team with a game-high 14 points that included two buckets from long-distance, while Birsen chipped in 10 points on 5-11 shooting in a losing effort.

“It’s an amazing feeling to be here,” said Şanlı, whose three-pointer jump-started a 9–0 Blue run in the second quarter.

Fans were also treated to a slam-dunk contest during halftime, from which Latvian forward Ivars Zvigurs emerged victorious after some impressive aerial acrobatics.

It was a special experience for Turkey’s young players, one they are unlikely to forget anytime soon.

“This is what it’s all about, to represent your country,” Kanter said following the game.
